Star Citizen Alpha 4.0 Now in EVO PTU Testing!
Star Citizen Alpha 4.0 has officially entered the PTU for testing by the evocati. This major milestone marks the first official 4.0 build, featuring server meshing, Pyro, and the jump gates, allowing players to travel between systems.
The initial evocati build included four dedicated game servers and 100 players per Shad with two servers per solar system. Cloud Imperium aims to encourage zone transitions and monitor performance during this initial test, with potential adjustments for future builds. The build size was 7.7 gig, as much of the 4.0 codebase is already installed on many PCs.
Early testing indicates a relatively stable start, which is uncommon for initial evocati builds. However, towards the end of the test, some instability emerged, with frequent crashes and server recoveries. The Stanton pyro jump lasts approximately 2 minutes, and many players struggled to maintain their ships’ course within the actual tunnel.
It remains to be seen how Cloud Imperium will configure the final build, determining the optimal balance of dedicated game servers and players. There’s a possibility that we could see highly populated worlds in Alpha 4.0.
Overall, the release of Alpha 4.0 to the PTU is an exciting development. Cloud Imperium hopes to release the build to the wider player base as soon as possible and aims to bring it to the live servers before the end of the year.
