Its almost here. In just a few days, the wait will be over and the Albion Online Closed Beta test will finally start. If you haven’t been part of the previous testing phases and have no idea of what you’ll have to do once you get in the game, this guide is for you and should allow you to get a decent quick start.

But before even considering this, you will need to gain access to the Closed Beta. Up till now, no announcement has been made regarding the distribution of free keys, and the only way to access this CBT will be through the purchase of one of the available founder packs, as follows:

FOUNDER PACK VETERAN EPIC LEGENDARY
COST $29.95 $49.95 $99.95
CLOSED BETA ACCESS DATE November 25 November 24 November 23

More information about the different founder packs can be found here.

Consider Finding A Guild

The easiest way for a quick start in Albion Online will of course be having people that know what they are doing advising you. Some established Alpha guilds are already recruiting new members on the Albion Online forums and subreddit, and joining one of those is your best bet at getting answers to your many questions.

Destiny Board

Your first goal as you start the game will be reaching T2 in the Destiny Board as fast as possible. And the best way to achieve this is by staying in the first area, regardless of how tempted you may be to leave the starter zone and explore the game. Now, nothing stops you from advancing to the next zone, but that would make reaching T2 slightly more time-consuming.

You may want to check out our introduction to the Destiny Board before reading further.

Reaching T2 will be relatively easy assuming that you follow the simple instructions, and should only take you between 10-20 minutes.

Before you leave the starter zone, however, make sure that you have the following gathered/crafted.

  • At least 20 logs (required for next quests, can’t hurt to have more).
  • At least 20 stones (required for next quests, can’t hurt to have more).
  • At least 15 rabbit hides (required for next quests, can’t hurt to have more).
  • Beginners Skinning Knife (Crafted before reaching T2)
  • Medium Beginners Leather Armor (Crafted before reaching T2)
  • Beginners Broadsword (Crafted before reaching T2)
  • Beginner’s Pickaxe (Crafted before reaching T2)
  • Beginners Shield
  • Medium Beginners Leather Hood
  • Medium Beginner’s Leather Shoes
  • Beginners Axe
  • Beginners Stone Hammer
  • Beginner’s Sickle

Unpack Your Founder’s Pack Items

This should only be done after you’ve reached the T3 starter town for practical reasons. And if you need to take a boat to reach friends or guildmates, you may want to wait until you’ve reached your destination before you unpack them. Regardless, your pack should be especially useful if you have an explorer’s horse, making your travel times much shorter.

Don’t Die

While this used to be essential in most MMOs, recent titles have been belittling this aspect of games. Nowadays, dying generally only means waiting a few seconds before you get to respawn, and in rare cases losing a trivial amount of EXP.

But Albion Online being a Sandbox MMO, dying carries far more impact, with players losing a lot of equipment durability, and potentially losing items from their inventory. The death penalty might have changed for the CBT, but it should still be relatively harsh. So don’t be ashamed to run away from battles against NPC if it seems like you’re about to lose.
