CCP’s Team Phenomenon is hard at work on some interesting tech for EVE Online, designing brand-new AI systems that are currently in testing. A trio of devs sat down for a video on the projects that Phenomenon has been designing as of late.
There are now NPC mining fleets that belong to certain corporations and mimic human movements and actions. While these fleets are tough, the cargo they’re carrying (including SKINs) make them a target for bold opportunists. The new AI is going to pop up in other places as well, such as in burn missions and with drifters.
The devs also spoke about the new Defender missiles, acknowledging that the community has bristled at the name. Check out the latest episode of the EVE Online Show after the break!
Back in November, we reported on the rollout of Hellion, a PvP-centric multiplayer sci-fi survival sandbox aiming for a Jaunary early access launch. Today, indie studio Zero Gravity has put out a new trailer for the game, which is apparently still on track, this one showcasing the survival elements in play in the gameworld.
As we’ve written before, in addition to its survival-themed PvP system, Hellion boasts a “complex resource gathering system,” crafting, ship maintenance, space stations, modular and customizable equipment, ship-vs.-ship combat, item decay, and “a deep backstory within an immersive multiplayer experience.” Oh yeah, and it’s really pretty, which is evident in the video we’ve tucked down below.
Why would you ever want to fly a ship in EVE Valkyrie that wasn’t the strongest, toughest, or most hard-hitting? The devs make a case this week that support class fighters are actually a very engaging choice, provided that you know how to use them.
Support class ships in this VR game are hands-down the fastest vessels, able to dart in and out of the battlefield while employing beams that heal and buff allies while debuffing foes. They can also pack a punch if they get a drop on another ship and don’t have to slug it out. If that’s not enough, support ships boast a complement of spider bots, mines, and countermeasures to deploy as needed.
