CCP’s VR shooter EVE: Valkyrie opens its doors today alongside the formal launch of the Oculus Rift platform and 29 other titles.

“We intend to be very open about what our feature roadmap looks like and we want your feedback on its content and priority,” writes Executive Producer Owen “CCP Digger” O’Brien in his launch address today. “This is the beginning of a journey. Welcome to the next life.”

We’ve included the launch trailer and gorgeous screenshots below.

[EVE ONLINE] The first great war in nearly 2 years has started in EVE Online.

It’s been just over 2 years since EVE ONLINE saw the largest online battle in video game history.

Since that day EVE has somewhat stagnated. . The winners, the CFC (now re-branded The Imperium) had secured their place as the only real super power and were untouchable. Whilst there were plenty of fights going on no one really believed we could ever see another battle on that scale again. There was no one who could challenge the Imperium.

That is until now!

This past week has seen almost all of the major alliances and many smaller ones go to war with the Imperium.

To understand what has sparked this i’d like to give you a little history of things that have happened in the game over the past 9 months.

  • CCP introduced a new system for capturing sovereignty The new system now allows guerilla like tactics to be used. Meaning sovereignty is no longer decided by who brings the biggest ships.
  • The Mittani’s failed Kickstarter

The Mittani (leader of the Imperium) attempted to get a book published about the fountain war. This was met a with huge backlash from the rest of the eve community, esp, /r/Eve, who felt he was trying to monetize his alliance members. After this Imperium members were encouraged not to use /r/Eve thus closing themselves off.

  • High Profile Imperium members defect

Not liking the direction the Imperium was taking a number of former high profile FC’s and spy’s leave the Imperium and join rival alliances.

  • The ‘I want isk’ financial backing for war

The Final piece. The website ‘i want isk’ (think Iron bank) begins paying alliances to go to war with the Imperium after coalition member SMA fails to pay a bill and accuses IWI of illegal activity.

A write up can be found HERE

Also a guide to the new Allied force can be found HERE

This new Allied coalition (Moneybadger coalition) saw its first large scale victory on Wednesday night. Over 2000 players fought it out in the first real battle of this war. The final battle report can be seen HERE. It was a total victory and smashed the illusion of Imperium invincibility once and for all.

Since then the Moneybadgers haven’t really lost a battle. Confidence is sky high and EVE is being spammed with propaganda messages urging Imperium pilots to defect, Such as THIS, THIS and THIS.

Then yesterday came the biggest surprise, the Mittani announced that two Imperium alliances (BASTION and LAWN) would be abandoning their territory and pushing deeper back into Imperium Sovereignty. Currently a Dunkirk style evacuation is taking place in the region of VALE OF THE SILENT.

For a visual represention, you can see the coalition map HERE and the alliance version HERE

The combination of the Imperium having to defend its home systems and 2 years of arms building by all sides means that this war has the potential to dwarf anything that EVE has seen before. Any of the skirmishes taking place right now could easily escalate into the largest battle in gaming history.

The entire EVE community is currently abuzz with excitement. This is the first great war in 2 years and its looking like something you will be reading about on gaming sites in the coming weeks.

If you have ever been curious about EVE or wanted to be part of a huge battle, NOW IS THE TIME TO JOIN!

The next few weeks could decide the future of EVE for years to come.

EDIT; Someone has crunched the numbers. The Moneybadger coalition against the imperium comprises almost 559 Corporations and nearly 40,000 pilots. THIS IS BIG!

Albion Online launches huge patch, “Cador”

Content Update Cador Now Live

Our newest content update, Cador, is now live. It brings a lot of new features, new content and lots of improvements.

Cador has been deployed to our servers today. The update comes with a vast number of big and small improvements.

New Death Mechanic

Cador sees a new Death Mechanic that will have a player knocked down first, when their hit points run out first. An opposing player or mob then needs to move in for an execution, resulting in an additional strategic component in battles.

Mobile Repair Kits

A new furniture item, Repair Kits, get introduced. They are furniture items that you can place practically anywhere in the world that will then serve as a convenient repair station. Their functionality is more limited than that of a full-fledged stationary one, the repair costs are higher and they only have a limited lifetime – but the convenience they offer more than make up for it.

Armor Rework

The armor system has been simplified to improve the readability so our players more easily know what’s what. Cloth Armor will always be light, Leather Armor will always be medium and Plate Armor will always be heavy. For a more detailed and in-depth explanation of the new system and its consequences see ourDeveloper Talk Video.

New Dungeons

Two new types of dungeons have been introduced to the game. The Mines and the Shanties are Heretic-themed and offer the gateway dungeon experience to low-tier solo players and small groups. Naturally, they come with new bosses and news mobs.

Other additions

There have also been numerous other additions, such as outlines for hidden characters, a scalable UI for PC and other UI improvements, new spells, bugfixes – and more. For a full overview, see our Update Page.

Camelot Unchained – New Lighting System

We’ve seen the light!

Happy Saturday all! We hope everybody is enjoying their weekend. On our end, we want to share a short progress report which will hopefully make your weekend even better! At 4AM this morning Eastern Time, the first phase of our new lighting system went LIVE on Hatchery! Yeah, some of the team were up that late working on it. So, first, thanks to George and JB who worked through the night to get that up and running. Before that, but still up late, Tim, Marc, Rob, Ben and Tyler were also up quite late fixing a problem with our new chat system, and working on some other Camelot Unchained items. Today, we fixed a problem with new patcher, so if you were having problems connecting today, that has been fixed.

Now, as to the first stage of our new lighting system, I’ve said that our Backers will see the improvements from it in phases. This is the first phase, where the new code is added to the game and after some tweaking, we redo our textures to make them “fit” the lighting system. As per my other updates, we couldn’t redo the textures until we know exactly how the new lighting system was going to work, and then we have to wait till it is added to the game. Now that the system is coming into view, we will begin tweaking/redoing all the textures we are using in the game. This will result in a much better looking game, one whose look belongs in this decade, and not older ones.  Here’s a quote from Tyler regarding the system:

“So key thing here, we have not done a thing to actually make the textures/materials make use of the new system. However, the lighting change really fills out the scene much better.

The cu_environment_01_1200 image was from yesterday’s update, before the lighting update. You’ll see how the forest is basically just all dark, you can’t really make much out except anything against the empty sky.

At night, you now have a middle ground which did not exist before. Basically everything was either in shadow, or in moon light. Now you can actually see more and get a greater sense of depth.

Granted all of this is in flux and will change, but the point is – looks better/sexy/artists happy!

Imagine sneaking around in there!

The evening shot, the lighting color now better, and more accurately suffuses the scene.”

Not bad eh? Wait till Tyler and the art team can really pretty them up! Of course, we’ll be sharing more screenshots next week, and we’ll be running Alpha/Beta 1/IT tests next week to see how it performs on our Backers’ PCs. There will be some well, “interesting” shots where the textures don’t look quite as good (we’ve already saved some of them for posterity), but once the artists get to retouch them, they will look great.

It has been a fine Saturday in the office, with lots of stuff getting done (more crafting goodness from me) and the close of Backer Necromaniak’s amazing marathon streaming session with C.U.B.E. As to Necromaniak’s livestream, I hope you all got a chance to see his amazing work but if you didn’t, he can be found here (https://www.twitch.tv/cu_necromaniak).

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
